Almost Finished

I made some good progress last night on the appliqué block. It rained hard and all outside activity was cancelled. I think tonight will be the same.

I just have 5 more buds to tack down. I do those by back basting. First you draw the shape on the back of the block. Then you tack a blob of fabric to the front and sew in the line with a fat needle and fat hand quilting thread.


On the front, I also trace the shape with my white pencil so I can see it better. I back basted all 5 at once.

Now I can cut away 1/4″ or so and applique the shape as I go. It’s a great technique and makes very accurate placement.

If we don’t have a scrimmage tonight, I should be able to finish this block.

    I like your technique of drawing it on the back side and baste stitching. Thanks for showing that. I may have to try that.
