Tuesday’s Tidbits

28 Aug
  1. This morning I had to drop the kids off at school for a 7am speech team tryout.  This was after I had a night class last night and I can never sleep after night classes.  Too wound up!  So I took them in my PJ’s.  🙂  I’m glad I didn’t get pulled over or anything!
  2. I’m thankful that my kids are mature enough to get themselves up in time for 7am tryouts.  I’m also thankful that they know not to talk to me at 6:30am before I’ve had at least one cup of coffee.  Then we can converse.
  3. I got 25 minutes of sewing in this morning as a result of above tryouts.
  4. Last night between day and night classes I also whipped up two hexagon flowers.
  5. I’ve noticed while cleaning up my stash that I like polka-dots, plaids, and read-as-solid fabrics the most.  I don’t like florals, conversationals and stripes very much.  Interesting…
  6. My 13yo’s science teacher is a first year teacher.  She picked groups for the students for science fair this year.  Luckily, my son got in a good group. He’s very bright and I hate when teachers put him in with non-hardworkers or not-so-sciencey students and then he carries the load while they screw around.  But she put him in with his best friend and fellow-smarty, Jimmy, and another good friend and last-year’s-science-fair-state-finalist, Josh.  DJ likes to work by himself but it’s good to get collaboration experience.
  7. I spoke to Josh’s mom this morning while getting my sandwich and water for my sack lunch at the local convenient store. The first thing she said was, “What’s with this new science teacher picking the groups for science fair?”  LOL  It was the first thing I said to DJ when he was telling about his day yesterday.  But then she said, “It worked out okay though since Josh is with Jimmy Neutron and Boy Genius!”  Crack me up!
  8. Gianna is going to sign up for basketball.  There are 22 girls in her class who attended the signup meeting.  That’s a lot.  I’m concerned that basketball will hurt her knee.  I’m concerned that she’s involved in too much already.  With basketball, she would be in speech, band, private piano lessons, private pitching lessons, travel softball and basketball.  Oh… and school!  Too much, don’t you think?  We only make her practice her music for 15 minutes a day (each instrument).  We try to have her pitch in the yard 4 of the 7 days a week.  Travel softball is one weeknight plus one weekend for practices.  Basketball practice will be every day – either after school or at 7am.  I have no idea how often 6th grade has games.  Speech team practice will be twice a week at 7am.  I’m exhausted thinking about it.
