Wow – I can’t believe it’s Design Wall Monday already! I’ve just been putzing around all week experimenting with how I’m going to do the borders for that nine-patch quit. I tried freezer paper shapes and interfacing. I wanted the leaves to have the shape so I could just position them and not needle turn. But, alas, I couldn’t get the points pointy enough with the prepared methods so I opted for needle turn. I enjoy needle turn and I’ve gotten pretty good at it. So needle turn it is.
I hope you weren’t expecting all green leaves! 🙂 How boring! The quilt is all scrappy so I figured the leaves should be too. I like to do needle turn by tracing the pattern on the back Jeanna Kimball style. But that didn’t work out for this because of the vine. So I just transferred registration marks to the front and am fumbling to find them! LOL
When I was piecing the quilt top, I used nickels as my leader and enders and made someo 1/2-square-triangles and 4-patches. I started putting them together. It’s not a real project and will probably turn in to a UFO. I should just save them for a later date, but I saw this pattern in “Antique Quilts” magazine and started laying it out on the design wall.

Applique borders are gorgeous and I like your units made from the nickels.
Needle turn is my favorite too. I have tried other methods but I always go back to that one.
I find your nickle quilt to be inspiring.
I need to keep an eye out for that donut to have on hand if I get back into applique. Love you nickel blocks.
love the leader ender and hat’s off to you and your applique, it is fabulous.
I like your leader ender project. I have been playing with nickels also.
I just love the different coloured leaves, they look great and so does the leader ender project.
