Nothing fancy on my design wall – a scrappy nine patch on point.
It’s a no-brainer – 4.5″ squares. Just busy work while I custom quilt the “experimental” blue applique. I quilted a bit more on that one.

Zigzag fill which was AWFUL to execute
I’m trying different techniques while quilting which is good. I’ve tried to put a rice bag on the top for drag like Sharon Schamber recommends. Sometimes I think it’s a good idea; sometimes I don’t. I tried to do the pebbling with a magnifier and it made me dizzy. It shakes because it’s attached to my machine head which is shaking and moving. The magnifier is small so maybe a bigger one will work out better. It’s an experimental quilt so I don’t mind that it’s not perfect.
I had to laugh when I SID’d the applique on this block.
Look at the missing blanket stitch in green!
I didn’t catch the missing blanket stitching when I pieced it but when you’re up close and personal, it jumps out at you. I’ll have to see if I even have that color of DMC floss and put it on after I’m done quilting. LOL An experiment indeed!

Your quilt is very good. I love the different quilting stitches. Did you freehand all of your patterns? I am learning freehand patterns for my long arm and wondered if the continuous curve was marked or with a template that you followed? I have a lot to learn. 🙂

For these I used a template. It’s a Constantine Quilt template. These are 2″ squares and that’s the smallest template I have. So any smaller squares I freehand the cc’s. They don’t look near as good.
the quilting is beautiful! I’ve done that before too-missed a part on the blanket stitching, sometimes it’s easy to do when your using a matching thread!
I usually do applique with invisible thread. I learned, the hard way, to look at the underside to see if I could see the outline of the applique. That way I could see where I missed a spot.
